Tips for a great nightlight

A lithophane glows where the plastic is thin and stays dark where it's thick — so bright, high-contrast photos with a clear subject look best.

The guides on your canvas

  • White band — the raised frame of the nightlight. It covers the very edges, so keep key details off them.
  • Black line — the inner edge of the frame: your photo shows up to here (photos snap to it).
  • Green dashed line — the safe area. Keep faces, text, and anything important inside it.

For the best result

  • Go big. Fill as much of the frame as you can — zoom and scale so your subject (a face, a pet, the main object) is large. Small details get lost once it's lit.
  • Bigger is better. When in doubt, size things up rather than down.
  • Bright & sharp. Well-lit, high-contrast photos carve the most detail; dark or blurry ones come out muddy.
  • Keep text large. Avoid a font size of 10 or smaller — tiny text won't print cleanly.
  • Respect the safe line. Faces and words belong inside the green dashes.

Photo tool

  • Upload a photo. Any area your photo doesn't cover is filled black automatically, so it reads as a dark surround, not a bright halo.
  • On mobile: drag the photo to move it; pinch with two fingers to zoom.
  • On desktop: drag the photo to move it; scroll or drag a corner to zoom.
  • Blue guide lines snap the photo neatly to the safe area.

Text tool (optional)

  • Add text, then choose the font, style, color, or curve it along an arc.
  • On mobile: tap text once to select it (the tools appear); tap it again to type. Drag to move; pinch or drag a corner to resize.
  • On desktop: click text to select it, click again to edit. Drag to move; corner handles change the size, side handles set the wrap width.

What's Included?

Your personalized nightlight arrives ready to display and includes:

  • One custom 3D-printed lithophane nightlight cover featuring your design
  • LED nightlight base with automatic dusk-to-dawn sensor

Use & Display

To attach your nightlight cover, unplug the nightlight base and press the cover onto the front until it sits securely. To swap designs, unplug the nightlight again and pull gently until the cover releases from the base.

Plug the nightlight into a standard indoor wall outlet with good clearance around it. The LED nightlight features an automatic dusk-to-dawn sensor that turns on in low light and off in bright light.

For best results, display in hallways, bedrooms, entryways, or other low-light areas.

Each ornament is made from PLA, a durable plastic derived from renewable plant-based sources such as corn and sugarcane.

Quality

Each product is produced individually. Minor surface variations or small imperfections may be visible and are a normal part of the production process.

What is a Lithophane?

A lithophane is a detailed image created through layers of material. When light shines from behind it, the design comes to life with depth, contrast, and a warm glowing effect. KOBLO uses this technique to turn meaningful places and artwork into ornaments, nightlights, and lamps.
